Lightening McQueen to the rescue!

I have been trying to potty train Gus off and on for about the last 6 months. Truth be told I am procrastinating simply because I don't want to do it. He has always done well for a few days and then wanted to go back to a diaper. Well, just this week he has really taken to the underpants. Yesterday he even went all by himself. He told me he had to go pee-pee and I said I was coming to help and he yelled, "No! I can do it myself!" Oh, those words are such music to my ears! So, for a big treat we went to Wal-Mart today and let him pick out some new underwear. I even paid $10 for the Disney ones and I don't even feel bad about it! You go, Gus! I knew you could do it! Now everyone pray that it sticks.

Tea anyone?

For Carly's 6th birthday she decided that she wanted to have a fancy tea party. We gave out the invites to her friends before school let out(she wanted it to be a friend party). We made a tea pot cake. For the party, we decorated flip-flops, pink bags, handed out tiaras and gloves and made beaded bracelets. Then, once everyone was accessorized they went outside to the deck for the luncheon. She didn't stop smiling the whole time! This is why Heavenly Father sent me one daughter, so I could throw a tea party and watch her eat it up! Happy Birthday Carly!

Taylorsville Dayzz carnival

Every year at this time Taylorsville Dayzz comes to town! I love, love, love Taylorsville Dayzz! We learned that on Thursday night, opening night, the carnival rides are $1 a ride(instead of like $4--ouch!) So, we took the kids and got $20 worth of tickets and let them ride some rides. I got to ride on the Ferris Wheel with Gus and Leo. Max and Carly were in the car in front of us. It was very hot, again you can tell from the red faces, but everyone had fun! We also went to the Beatles Tribute concert in the park on Saturday night, I ran in the 5k Saturday morning, and we went and watched the parade. We also saw the fireworks after the concert that never disappoint! The concerts are fun because they put up an outdoor stage and you pick a spot on the huge grass field behind the baseball complex, pull up your chair/blanket and cooler and just hang out and listen to the music. The kids like it too because we always sit back a little ways so we have a little room. They can dance and play around without care. It's just good fun!

Wheeler Farm

My sister Stephanie organizes Friday field trips in the summer and this past Friday she called and asked if we wanted to go to Wheeler Farm with her. It was a very hot day, as you can tell from all the red faces, but very fun. I think the old tractors were the favorite of my kids.

Rylee's Birthday Cake

I made a cute Hello Kitty cake for my nieces 3rd birthday. I thought I would share it with you all!

A note to my mom

Just a little update on my mom. She is starting chemotherapy on Tuesday. It will last for 16 weeks. Then, a mastectomy. Then, radiation. I talked to a dear friend in my ward today who also battled breast cancer a few years ago. She said the best thing that I can do for her is to pray for her, support her, and let her know that I love her. So, mom, if you're reading this, I am constantly praying for you (and putting you on the prayer roll!), thinking about you and how you are doing, supporting your decisions and I love you so much. I know that you are strong and that you will make it through this. I know that you will only be stronger when this is all over. I wish that I could do more, that I could fix it, but I know that I can't. If there is ever anything I can do for you, please call me, and I will be calling you. I have several reliable sitters who have offered to take my kids so I can come and see you or help in any way, so please let me. You are so strong and brave and I know that you can beat this. I'm so sorry that you have to face this trial. But know that you are never alone. There are so many people that love you and are there for you. Most importantly, our Heavenly Father. He will comfort you. He will heal you. He will lighten your load, if you will turn to Him and let Him. I love you, mom.

The results are in...

My mom got the results back yesterday from her biopsy and it's breast cancer. Oh, boy. She also had a bone scan today to see if it has spread to her bones. Many tears have been shed and continue to be shed. I feel so helpless to do anything to fix it either. I guess it's all a part of the trials in life. My trial in this is to accept that it is in the Lord's hands. I have faith that it will work out in the end and accept the outcome, no matter what that brings. I love you mom, I know you will fight this with all that you have. I will be praying for you. Thank you to everyone who has given me support as well. I appreciate it, more than you can know. And Steph, you can call me anytime.

Kindergarten Field Trip

I went with Carly's class to the Tracy Aviary today for her field trip. I had three cute little girls to chaperon around the aviary. It was a delight. It was a little cold and drizzled most of the time we were there, but they were SO glad that I brought my sister Stephanie's gigantic umbrella so we would all fit under it. Thanks, Steph for the umbrella and for watching the little guys so I could go! The friends in the picture are Madie Johnson, Carly Cooper, and Lacie Nekko. SO cute, ladies!

Whatever Floats Your Boat

We went to Carl's Jr. for dinner on Saturday night with the Hutchinson's(May 29th). They were arranging a trip to Kevin's parents cabin for Memorial Day and they invited us to go along(well, Carly invited herself, and then the rest of us...). So, we went halfway up Parley's to the cabin for a sleepover. The kids had a great time and the first thing they did was get the boats out and floated boats. This is where the title to this post comes from- Q: What do you do at the cabin? A: Whatever floats your boat! He!He! Kevin and Joey also repaired the bridge over the creek and helped Kevin's dad and uncle fix the busted pipe so we could flush the toilet. We had a good relaxing time, other than worrying about little people falling in the stream. Stacy also put together a scavenger hunt for the kids that was a big hit. The pic of the leaves on the table is of Carly's pile. Cooper had about three times as much as he needed to collect and it was all laid in a big pile on the table and we couldn't really even tell if he had it all right. His motto was if he gets more that means he wins more! Thanks for the invite, Kevin & Stacy, even if you just felt like you had to, we had a great time!
